ABOUT ME

The journey of a musician doesn’t follow a straight continuous trajectory.
It’s more of a bumpy road dotted with doubts, disillusionments,
and challenging trials, ultimately leading to magical moments.

SEBASTIEN POITEVIN

The beginning

Born in Paris in an era dominated by bell-bottoms and vinyl records, I grew up rocked by the sounds of The Rolling Stones, Bob Marley’s rastas, Frank Zappa’s extravagances, and Deep Purple’s riffs. My musical revelation came at the age of 8 during a school visit to the local Conservatory, where I met my destiny: a drum set. After a few moves, at 11, I finally got to unleash on my own drums.

About me

Career...

At 16, fresh out of middle school, I joined my first rock band while immersing myself in drum studies at the Conservatory. There, I flirted with Jazz and Latin music. At 22, I landed my first serious job: a drum teacher at a municipal music school. The salary? Let’s not talk about it, but the school holidays were great!

My drumming career was marked by fleeting bands and diverse stage adventures. My style? Simple, effective, no frills—I leave the endless drum solos to others.

Projects

With my associates, I also set up Jokersound, a website dedicated to music for films, advertisements, reports, and documentaries. I also launched Music Concept, a platform dedicated to propelling my bands into the spotlight and orchestrating hair-raising events. The first productions were “Circus,” a vibrant tribute to Lenny Kravitz, and “Another Night In Paradise,” an evening under the stars with the hits of Phil Collins and Genesis. Since then, our catalog has exploded with more than 10 groups, animating festivals, corporate events, and team-building sessions. The highlight? “Electryze,” my latest project, which combines electronic music and stunning visuals in a tribute that electrifies the senses.

This is how my score has been written up to today…

Drum teacher & more

In 2015, I got a promotion: I took the reins of the Conservatory where I had taught for 15 years, revitalizing the programs with courses in Contemporary Amplified Music and collective workshops for everyone. In my opinion, group play is the cornerstone of learning music.

My entrepreneurial adventure began in 2011 following an intensive drumming workshop in New York, with the creation of Web Music School. The idea? To share sheet music, tips for drummers, and blog articles with an educational flavor. In 2020, the site became Best Music Sheet, where I innovated drum teaching with case studies based on real songs. Because let’s be honest, who prefers to struggle with pages of exercises when you can learn to drum to “Stairway to Heaven”?
